Last Emperor of China

Last Emperor of China

A very storied medal. The observe shows a portrait of Henry Pu Yi, the last Emperor of the Qing Dynasty of China which ended in 1912 with Pu Yi's abdication at the age of 6.

Pu Yi was briefly restored as the Qing emperor for 12 days in July 2017 by a loyalist warlord.

He was declared emperor again in 1934 as head of Manchukuo (a regime propped up by Imperial Japan after the occupation of Manchuria in China) until the end of World War 2 in 1945. This medal was minted in 1934 and marks his last inauguration as Emperor of Manchukuo.

Pu Yi lived through the fall of the Qing Dynasty, WWII, the Chinese Civil War of 1945 to 1949, and the reign of Communist China. He died in 1967.
