This medal celebrates the coronation of King George VI of Great Britain in 1937. The obverse shows five different personas, representing Great Britain, India, Africa, Canada, and Australia.

King George VI was the last Emperor of India when the British Raj administration was dissolved in August 1947.

Australia became officially autonomous in both internal and external affairs in 1942, but only gained full independence in 1986.

This medal is very representative of the extent of Britain's empire, not forgetting the height of the empire just before American War of Independence.
